1961 Mercedes 190SL
Full Restoration
The Mercedes-Benz 190SL (W121) was produced from 1955 to 1963. It was a luxury roadster with a 1.9 litre 4-cylinder engine, designed to be more accessible than its famous sibling, the 300SL Gullwing. This beautifully proportioned sports car has become highly sought after by collectors. This particular example underwent a comprehensive restoration at our workshops.

The 190SL arrived at our workshop in need of a comprehensive restoration. While the car was complete, years of use had taken their toll on the bodywork and mechanicals.

The strip-down process begins, revealing the true condition of the body panels and structure beneath the surface.

With the body stripped, we can properly assess the condition of the shell and plan the restoration work needed.

Panel repairs and rust treatment are carried out to restore the structural integrity of the body.

The bodywork is carefully prepared for painting, with attention to every detail.

The engine bay is prepared for the rebuilt engine installation.

The 1.9 litre engine receives a complete rebuild to original specification.

Component restoration continues with careful attention to authenticity.

The bodyshell is now ready for its final paint preparation.

Fresh paint has been applied and the body gleams with new colour.

The chrome trim and brightwork are carefully restored or replaced.

Interior restoration begins with new materials carefully matched to original specifications.

The dashboard and instruments are restored to their former glory.

New leather seating and trim are fitted.

Final assembly brings all the restored components together.

The engine bay is now immaculate and ready for use.

Detail work continues on the exterior trim and fittings.

Final checks and adjustments are made before delivery.

The completed 190SL in all its restored glory – a testament to the skill and dedication of the Rees Bros team.
Another fine example of the craftsmanship and dedication at Rees Bros.
