Often our work simply involves uprating a classic car to an owner's specific requirement. This particular TR4a is a good sound car but the owner wanted it to go and stop a bit better. So we first removed the engine and gearbox. The floor pan had never been painted for some strange reason so we stripped it down…

… and painted it Sapphire Blue to match the rest of the car.

We also installed a roll over bar for greater safety. This had to be positioned very accurately so that it was not too far forward to hit the driver's head and not too far back to hit the hood.

The brake upgrade involved fitting 4 pot callipers and ventilated discs.

When installed and bedded in, they really improved the stopping performance.

The engine was rebuilt fully and tuned. During strip down, a crack in the block was found. This was repaired successfully using metal stitching – the repair can be seen in the upper left hand corner of the block face.

This TR4a didn't have overdrive so the owner chose HiGear Engineering's Ford Type 9 5 speed conversion. HiGear supplied a really nice cast bell-housing and tail housing with their kit.

The gearbox was about the same size as the old Triumph box and fitted well within the existing gearbox mounts and tunnel.

Here the rebuilt engine has been installed and was now ready to have its ancillary items fitted. The car performed a lot better when we finished the work.
Another fine example of the craftsmanship and dedication at Rees Bros.
